Author Jamie Beck returns with an engrossing series about family, friendship, and starting over. In this first Cabot novel, a legacy of secrets tests old friends seeking a second chance at life and love.
On the second anniversary of her husband’s suicide, Colby Cabot-Baxter is ready to let go of her grief and the mistakes made during her turbulent marriage. Her fresh start comes in the form of A CertainTea, the restaurant she’s set to open along Lake Sandy, Oregon, with help from her family. But when her executive chef quits just weeks before the grand opening, Colby is pressured to hire old family friend Alec Morgan. His award-winning reputation could generate buzz, but their friendship has withered since her husband’s reckless dare cost Alec’s brother his life.
Distracted by guilty secrets concerning the tragedy that changed his and Colby’s lives, Alec self-destructed and lost his famed restaurant. With his career in tatters, he’s determined to use this opportunity to redeem his reputation and to help the woman he’s loved from afar find happiness again.
But secrets have a way of coming out. When Alec’s do, they might destroy the new life he and Colby have rebuilt together.
This author was a first time read for me. Her story was so real I was unable to put it down for a second. I felt a connection with all of the characters in this story. I laughed and cried throughout the whole story and was sorry when it ended. This author was my first read, but it won’t be my last. – Sheilsy
Another must read from Jaime Beck! Secrets and guilt can be hard on a relationship. Alec and Colby story starts when then are young children growing up as neighbors. Throughout the story you see how they grew apart and help each find themselves again! – Robyn M. Schiffer
Great story line about how life can give us twists unexpectedly and how true friendships can survive and heal old wounds. I really enjoy this author’s writing and will continue to bookmark and read any other books she successfully creates! – Bernadette Quinn
While reading this novel I was hoping that everything would work out for all the people involved with all the trauma as I actually could almost picture myself having the problems. Each character seemed not to be able to solve what they were facing on their own. I liked how the author provided a way for most of them to address the needs of them to at least begin. Looking forward to reading more about the Cabots. – Patricia A. Biba
Oh, I was hooked right from the first word. This wasn’t a “feel good” book all the way through. I really felt Colby’s ache and Alec’s pain around Mark and Joe. It was a tough back story in that respect, but it made the ending all the more sweet. I was rooting for both of them all the way through! – Katrina Whalen
I was pleasantly surprised by this romance. I saw it advertised in Kindle unlimited so I checked it out and now I’m hooked enough to read the other two in the series. It has beautiful prose and the heated romance scenes are very believable and passionate. Great read! I highly recommend to die-hard romance novel readers. – Callie Sutcliffe
